Cold Weather Advisory
BMU encourages Voluntary Conservation by electricity users to lessen the likelihood that service will be interrupted during high demand periods caused by the extreme weather conditions.
Key steps to help:
-
Decrease thermostat settings to the lowest comfortable level, preferably 68°.
-
Avoid using major electric appliances, such as dishwashers and clothes dryers, until mid‐day or after 8 p.m., when the demand for electricity decreases.
-
Turn off and unplug non-essential lights and appliances.
-
Close blinds and shades at night to reduce energy loss through the windows.
BMU is requesting commercial and industrial users take steps to conserve where possible.
-
Tip: Moving water is less likely to freeze. During cold snaps, leave one faucet on with a slow drip of cold water, particularly overnight. Choose the faucet farthest away from where the water enters your home to keep it moving through the entire house and leave cabinet doors open to water supply lines.
